“The Affordable Care Act enabled me to purchase good, affordable insurance that allowed me to afford the health monitoring and treatment that keeps me alive”
I am self-employed with a pre-existing condition (Stage 4 renal disease, hereditary nephritis). Last year I underwent transplant surgery and have had complications as a result.
The Affordable Care Act enabled me to purchase good, affordable insurance.
Without the ACA and its protections for people with pre-existing conditions, insurance premiums (IF I can get insurance at all) would be financially out of reach for me and I would no longer be able to afford the health monitoring (labs, specialist appointments) and treatment that are essential to keeping me alive.
Besides being a patient, I am also a healthcare provider – a licensed mental health professional. Every day I experience the need for protecting what we have gained under the ACA – including mandated coverage for mental health services as an essential health benefit.
Doing everything we can to keep quality coverage affordable and healthcare accessible should be our nation’s top priority.
